Another person has landed in hot water for posting a Facebook status update. A judge was recently publicly reprimanded for posting information about the current Heisman Trophy holder Johnny Manziel’s traffic violation.

After Johnny Manziel received a speeding ticket in Ennis, Texas, the Ennis-based judge shared the following on his profile:

Too funny. So it seems a certain unnamed (very) recent Heisman Trophy winner from a certain unnamed ‘college’ down south of her got a gift from the Ennis P.D. while he was speeding on the 287 bypass yesterday. It appears that even though the OU defense couldn’t stop him, the City of Ennis P.D. is a different story altogether. Time to grow up/slow down young ‘un. You got your whole life/career ahead of you. Gig em indeed.

Apparently, the judge’s ‘attempt’ at concealing Manziel’s identity did not fly, despite the addendum “I mean to say ‘allegedly speeding,’ my bad” which followed a few minutes later. The judge, as well as Ennis City Manager Steve Howerton, have since issued apologies. The latter’s statement read:

Receiving a traffic ticket is not a humorous matter… Further, it is not the policy of the City of Ennis to indiscriminately publish the identity of traffic ticket recipients or to publicly lecture them.

§ One Response to Judge Reprimanded For Status Update

  • Claudette Goya says:

Aren’t things like speeding tickets a matter of public record? If so, then this response to the judge’s innocent post is silly.
And speeding tickets can be sources of light humor. No need to take everything so seriously.
